MORU was proudly represented at the MIDSEA Summer School 2026, held at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, in Borneo, from 8 to 13 June 2026. The event highlighted MORU’s continued contribution to the growing MIDSEA network and offered a valuable opportunity for learning, collaboration, and recognition.

Phrutsamon Wongnak (Chang) contributed to the teaching programme, sharing expertise in model simulation and coding. Joining the training programme were Vidhyakorn Mahd-Adam (Ameen), Tanakorn Waleecharoenpong (Pepe), Shun Lei Win of MAEMOD, and Kantapong Kotchum (Mark) of CTSG, who had hand in intensive sessions on the theory, practice, and real-world applications of infectious disease modelling alongside experts and practitioners from across Southeast Asia and Australia.

A special highlight of the week was Mark’s oral poster presentation winning award for “Modeling RSV Viral Clearance Kinetics,” adding another proud moment for MORU after Chang’s success in the same category the previous year.

Alongside the academic programme, the team also visited the “Semenggoh Wildlife Centre” in Sarawak, where they observed orangutan, the largest arboreal mammals, and third-largest great ape and reflected on how climate and environmental change can shape wildlife health and habitat and the spread of infectious diseases, an inspiring reminder of the wider context in which modelling of infectious disease matters.
